Dear Fellow Golfer,
B.A.G.S., which was established in the spring of 1989,
has grown from a first year membership of 75 to over 400 at the present time
consisting of students age 16 or older, men, women and seniors. The women
compete against the men from the more forward tees using their course adjusted
handicaps. The
tournament schedule consists of one day events held nearly every weekend, along with an
equal number of weekday tournaments. During the course of the season, there are several 36
hole tournaments scheduled including: the spring and fall Cape Cod Weekends and the
Society Championship.
While members compete off their handicap - index, in the
net division for trophies and prizes, a handicap - index is not needed to join B.A.G.S. A
provisional handicap is assigned to you based on your best par 72 scores, thus giving new
members a chance to compete right away. Once ten scores have been posted, you will receive
a handicap - index. Any member, who plays to a single digit handicap - index, is eligible
for the gross/scratch division.
Our season begins in mid-April and continues through the
end of October. The official schedule is published in mid-March. This enables you to
select, well in advance, the events which suit your schedule. There is no minimum
amount of tournaments that you are required to play in. You can enter just those you
want. To guarantee a spot in weekend tournaments, please try to enter at least
ten days
in advance. Unless stated on the tournament schedule, no advance payment is required.
Provided you give B.A.G.S.' at least 48 hours notice of withdrawal before the
first scheduled tee off time, there will be no charge for withdrawing from the
event.
The tournaments are open only to the members. However,
members may bring guests to the private clubs and weekday events. Guests may play on
weekends only if space is available. Membership in B.A.G.S. last a full 12 months, so the
date that the application is processed, is the expiration date of your membership the
following year.
Entry fees for each event include the normal greens fee
and the prize fund. The cost varies depending on the course being played. Carts are an
optional extra, however; some courses insist on the usage of carts as part of the outing
package and the cart charge is included in the entry fee.
Yours sincerely,
Steve Ritter - Tournament Director
